My parents encouraged me to continue with cover after I turned 18 so I’ve always had it, for the reason you can’t insure after the event. I only rarely use it each year but when you do need it, having the cover is worth its weight in gold. I had a run in with a car on my bicycle resulting in multiple breaks to my collarbone. Having my choice of surgeon and hospital made all the difference getting me back to full range of motion with my arm allowing me to continue rock climbing. The public system was happy for the 4 different breaks to heal naturally. I ended up with a plate and nine screws to stabilize the pieces and able to use my arm again the very next day. It is injuries like that that make having private health cover so critical.
